New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Thursday allowed Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, jailed in a murder case, to participate in the trust vote in the Lok Sabha on July 22.
Justice G.S. Sistani allowed Pappu Yadav’s plea after his counsel said the MP had earlier been allowed by the court to cast his vote in the presidential and vice presidential elections.
The ruling provides some relief to the Manmohan Singh government that is scrambling for numbers ahead of the trust vote.
Pappu Yadav, who has been in Delhi’s Tihar Jail since February 2005, was convicted by a Bihar trial court for the murder of Communist Party of India-Marxist legislator Ajit Sarkar on June 14, 1998.
