Prakash upsets top seed in Aptos Challenger

Aptos (California) : India’s Prakash Amritraj started from where he left, upsetting top seed American Amer Delic in the opening round of $75,000 Aptos Challenger tennis tournament.

Prakash, who reached the final of Hall of Fame Tennis Championship last week, shocked the 143rd ranked Delic 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in their second Challenger meeting, here Wedensday. The two had met in a Texan Challenger in 2003 where Delic had beaten Prakash in three sets.

Prakash, a semi-finalist here last year, in the second round will face American wild card holder Phillip Simmonds who defeated veteran Cecil Mamiit from the Philippines 6-3, 7-5.
