Manh, general secretary of CPV, closed the 7th plenary of the Central Committee of CPV, which evaluated national performance from January to June and unresolved tasks for the rest of the year.

Three decisions were made, the first two related to CPV’s work with young people and intellectuals, and the other to agriculture, farmers and rural areas.

Attention to new generations is essential to national strategy since they are the motive power that guarantees the country’s stability and sustainable development, states the document.

To have knowledgeable intellectuals similar to those of developed countries is a challenge Vietnam plans to overcome by 2020.

As regards agriculture, CPV aims at assembling a modern socio-economic infrastructure in rural areas, a production rhythm to guarantee both short and long-term food supplies, and a cultural identity based on national values.

Socio-economic achievements during the first semester 2008 were acknowledged, but the high inflationary rate, commercial deficit, economic growth deceleration and its negative effects on workers’ life still make those achievements unstable.
