Ahmedabad : With Indian Cricket League (ICL) eyeing the Sardar Patel Stadium here, civic authorities in this Gujarat city are likely to ask the sports body to spend Rs.100 million on its facelift, officials said Wednesday.
ICL representative Kiran More met Ahmedabad’s Municipal Commissioner I.P. Gautam last week with an offer for upgrading and using the stadium, and according to the officials the civic authorities are likely to ask the ICL for a huge amount for the makeover of the sports ground.
ICL members were in the city Tuesday and More, in the ICL’s board of directors, would be meeting Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials in a couple of days.
According to AMC officials, the sports stadium was being used largely for marriage parties or religious meets until now. With ICL coming forward the complexion of the stadium can change for the better, say the officials.
The stadium in the heart of the city has the potential to be a world-class facility and if managed properly could boost sports culture here, the officials believe.
The ICL proposal includes installation of floodlights and developing other infrastructure.
