Agartala : The ruling Left front in Tripura Wednesday pledged to intensify the stir against the India-US civil nuclear deal even as the opposition Congress took out rallies across the state to celebrate the Manmohan Singh government’s trust vote victory in parliament.
“With the withdrawal of support by the Left parties at the centre, the Congress has become free from their evil influence as they are our main enemies in Tripura, West Bengal and Kerala,” said Ratan Lal Nath, Tripura opposition leader.
“We faced some restrictions in fighting the Left parties in the three states as they were supporting us at the centre… Now, we are free,” Nath told journalists here.
“India is in terrible need of a strong strategic partner like the US and the Left parties, specially the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), would understand it only after two decades when China would be a more powerful nation,” said Tripura Pradesh Congress president and former chief minister Samir Ranjan Burman.
Meanwhile, leaders of the Left parties made it clear that they would continue their agitation against the petroleum-products price hike and the nuclear deal and observe nationwide general strike on August 20.
“Our struggle against the Indo-US nuclear deal and price rise would be intensified across the country and these would be the main issues in the coming Lok Sabha polls,” said Badal Chowdhury, CPI-M central committee member.
CPI-M spokesman Gautam Das said: “The manipulated trust vote victory, using unethical tactics and unlawful activity, would be short-lived.”
