The arrested Maoist rebels belong to Jharkhand Liberation Tigers (JLT), a police official said.

On a tip-off, the police raided a JLT hideout in the jungle under the jurisdiction of Padma police station of Hazaribagh district, which is around 120 km from here.

Two illegally manufactured pistols, five live cartridges, one motorbike and one Indica car were seized from them.

“The arrested rebels were involved in several cases of snatching motorbikes and collecting ‘levy’ from villagers. The seized bike was stolen by JLT members a few months ago,” said Praveen Kumar, superintendent of police of Hazaribagh.

Maoist rebels are active in 18 of the 24 districts of the state. In the last seven years, over 1,200 people including civilians and Maoist rebels have been killed.
