Abu Dhabi : India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will hold a substantive meeting next month to discuss a whole range of security issues.
“UAE has invited an Indian delegation to be led by the home secretary in August for the first substantive meeting of the joint committee on security cooperation that was set up by the two countries,” a diplomatic source told IANS Tuesday.
India’s Ambassador to the UAE Talmiz Ahmad had met UAE Interior Ministry Undersecretary Abdullah Al-Sha’afar in the latter’s office Monday to discuss the agenda for the meeting.
The UAE is home to around 1.5 million expatriate Indians.
The August meeting will be the first follow-up meeting of the joint committee meeting held in New Delhi in 2006.
Asked about the issues that might come up for discussion, the source said: “The meeting will discuss a whole range of security issues including money-laundering and criminal activity.”
The joint committee has been set up at the permanent undersecretary level from the UAE side and the home secretary level from the Indian side.
