New Delhi : Ahead of External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee’s four-day visit to China Wednesday, India has announced it will send more aid for the victims of the recent earthquake in the country.
Two IL-76 aircraft have been detailed to carry tents for earthquake victims in China.
“The first IL-76 aircraft with 200 tents will leave for Chengdu in China from Guwahati on June 6 and another aircraft with 200 tents will leave the next day,” a defence ministry statement said Tuesday.
India’s aid to quake-affected China has been codenamed Operation Sahayta and the Indian Air Force has so far airlifted over 150 tonnes of relief material to Chengdu on seven IL-76 aircraft.
India has been quick to respond and has pledged $5 million in aid to China, where over 15,000 people died in a devastating earthquake last month.
