New Delhi : A paramour of a domestic maid, who allegedly drugged and looted her two women employers by mixing sedatives in the supper at their south Delhi home last month, has been arrested on charges of trying to sell stolen goods, police said Wednesday.
Rahul Paul, a 22-year-old from West Bengal, was arrested Tuesday near a shop in Ashram area where he had gone to sell the articles stolen from the rented accommodation of Sharan Suri and Saloni Mahajan.
Two stolen laptops, four mobile phones and five credit cards were recovered from him.
Suri works as an education consultant with the British High Commission and Mahajan is a sales and marketing manager with a newspaper. They are from Chandigarh.
They had hired 22-year-old Luci Minz, a resident of Orissa, as domestic help through a placement agency around two years ago.
Police said Minz wanted to marry Paul, who is already married. Paul said no to the proposal citing financial problems. They then decided to loot Suri and Mahajan to overcome the financial crunch.
On May 11, Paul bought sedatives from a medical store and gave them to Minz, who mixed them in the dinner to her employers. Suri and Mahajan soon fell unconscious.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Anil Shukla said Minz then called Paul and both ransacked the house. Before leaving, Minz also tore into pieces her police verification papers to escape being identified.
They fled from Delhi and stayed at various places in Bihar and West Bengal.
“When Minz again insisted on marriage, Paul made a plan to get rid of her as he was already married and the looted cash was also exhausted. First he tried to give the same sedatives to Minz.
“Later on, he took the laptops and mobile phones from her on the pretext of selling them. They then boarded a train going from Asansol to Gaya. Enroute, he got down from the train leaving Luci. With all these stolen articles, he returned to Delhi,” he added.
Police said efforts were on to trace Minz.
