Gaza : Deposed Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haneya Thursday called on the Arab League (AL) to host a comprehensive dialogue between his movement and Fatah movement of President Mahmoud Abbas.
Haneya said in a televised speech aired on several Arab satellite channels that he welcomes Abbas’ initiative of reconciliation and the resumption of dialogue, calling on “AL to sponsor the dialogue anywhere based on the principle no winner andno looser until we reach an agreement.”
He also urged the parties to launch the dialogue immediately.
“In order to prepare the atmosphere for dialogue, we call on the two sides to stop immediately the media campaigns, to immediately release prisoners from prisons. From now and on, we will decide the proper steps from our side,” he added.
Abbas on Wednesday presented an initiative to launch a comprehensive Palestinian dialogue to end the split of the Gaza Strip controlled by Hamas and the West Bank governed by Fatah.
About one year ago, Hamas movement took control of the Gaza Strip by force following weeks of bloody infighting with rival Fatah fighters and routed President Abbas’ security forces.
