Addressing a function organised at the headquarters of Imarat Shariah here to felicitate him, Dr Ansari said education was the basic right of the people and the government had the constitutional obligation to ensure people’s access to quality education. He was on his first visit after becoming vice-president. He was accorded a red carpet welcome by Imarat Shariah, a reputed Islamic institution active in Bihar, Jharkhand and Orissa.

Dr Ansari emphasized on women’s role in the Muslim community and said that minorities should have keen interest in sending their students to schools and colleges. Children will never get proper education until mothers are not literate.

“All should not be left to the government” he said. Government can arrange educational institutions and provide facilities but it is the duty of Muslims to send their children to schools and colleges. All sincere efforts of the government would go in vain if there was lack of determination for quest of education among the Muslim community, Dr Ansari pointed out.

“Bihar has always been among the front runner in the field of academic excellence but due to some factors it lost its edge and students aspiring for quality education are now migrating to other parts of the country and abroad for higher education”, he noted and hoped the trend would get altered in coming days.

Referring article 30 of Indian constitution he said that we (Muslims) have got right to run organizations but it is very disappointing that the government buries many things concerned to minorities despite the rights given by article 30.
