Ranchi : A court Friday issued a bailable warrant against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray in a case related to derogatory remarks made by him on people from Bihar.
The warrant was issued by Jamshedpur’s First Class Judicial Magistrate Anil Kumar. The warrant was issued after Thackeray failed to appear in court Thursday.
“The Jamshedpur court issued the warrant after Raj Thackeray failed to appear in court,” said Sudhir Kumar Pappu, a Jamshedpur-based lawyer, who had filed the case against the MNS chief.
The case is related to derogatory remarks made by Thackeray against people from Bihar March 9 last year.
Kumar filed a case in Jamshedpur’s Sonari police station March 11. When the police did not take any action, he moved the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court in Jamshedpur March 13.
The court took cognizance April 19, 2007 and directed Thackeray to appear before it.
When Thackeray failed to appear in the court, it issued a warrant against him in May last year.
Thackeray moved the Supreme Court requesting transfer of his case from Jamshedpur to Maharashtra. The Apex Court asked him to move the Jharkhand High Court.
Thackeray did not get relief from the Jharkhand High Court and was directed to appear in the magistrate’s court.
