New Delhi : Sania Mirza swept aside fifth-seeded Italian Flavia Pennetta in straight sets to move into the second round of $175,000 Ordina Open at’s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands Monday.
It was expected to be a tough opening match for Sania, who made a first round exit in her comeback match at DFS Classic tournament in Birmingham last week.
But the Indian notched up a comfortable 6-4, 6-3 win in a little over an hour over the world no. 23 Pennetta.
The city of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, or Den Bosch as it is called by the locals, is the capital of the province Noord Brabant in the Netherlands.
This was Sania’s first win in three months after being out of the circuit with a wrist injury which also forced her to miss the French Open.
Sania next plays winner of the match between Michaella Krajicek of Netherlands and Japanese Ai Sugiyama.
