European Commission (EC) Representative in Jerusalem John Kjaer signed an agreement Monday to extend the financial aid to the UN office which will be responsible for importing the equipment on behalf of the Palestinian police, according to the Palestinian radio Monday.

Kjaer, speaking at a news conference in Ramallah, said the EU was contributing to the building of a professional Palestinian civilian police, a key component for a democratic Palestinian state governed by the law.

Part of the 5 million Euros, he said, would be used to purchase 50 police vehicles as well as buying walkie talkies and antennas.

Uniforms will be purchased for around 4,000 policemen, added Kjaer.
