A statement sent to the media by al-Quds Brigades, the movement armed wing, said the rocket attack was in response to the killing of an Islamic Jihad commander this morning by Israeli forces in the West Bank.

Israeli sources said the rockets landed on Sderot city, hitting an abandoned house and an open space. No injuries were reported in the shelling.

The incident occurred on the sixth day of an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire which took hold in Gaza Strip on Thursday. The previous days of the six-month lull passed quietly.

An Islamic Jihad commander and a university student were killed by Israeli soldiers in Nablus city in the West Bank. The territory is excluded from the ceasefire which Egypt brokered between Hamas, which controls Gaza, and Israel.

According to the deal, Israel has to ease Gaza blockade and stop its military operations there in exchange for halting Palestinian rocket attacks against Israel.
