Jammu : Panun Kashmir, a leading organization of Kashmiri Hindus who were forced to flee the Valley in the 1990s, Tuesday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to stop “Talibanization of Kashmir”.
Panun Kashmir convenor Agnishekhar, in a letter to the prime minister, said a grim situation was emerging in the Kashmir Valley due to the “words and acts of separatists and communal elements among mainstream parties with regard to the transfer of land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB)”.
There have been widespread protests in Kashmir against the Jammu and Kashmir government’s allocation of forest land to the board. Protesters Tuesday blocked the annual pilgrimage to the Hindu cave shrine of Amarnath.
The letter said the “fundamentalists” in the state’s ruling coalition partner Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the main opposition National Conference besides separatists were spearheading a campaign against the annual Amarnath pilgrimage in the name of opposition of transfer of land to the shrine board.
He wondered why the central government was reduced to becoming a mute spectator allowing the things to drift.
