New Delhi : A suspected Pakistan-trained terrorist of the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen who was on the run for the past seven years has been arrested, the police said here Tuesday.
Habib-ur-Rehman alias Baba of Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested Monday evening from a bus stop in Sarai Kale Khan area when he was trying to flee the city, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Alok Kumar told IANS. The militant carried a reward of Rs.25,000 for any information leading tyo his arrest.
No arms or ammunition were recovered from him.
Rehman escaped in 2001 when two of his Pakistani accomplices, Maqsood Ahmed and Sayyed Mohammed, were arrested for smuggling eight kg of explosives, detonators and grenade into the capital.
According to the police, Rehman received arms training in Pakistan in 1999 and after coming to Delhi he provided logistics support to militants.
Kumar said the arrested militants in their interrogation, had revealed the involvement of two others, Ashad Hilal and Habib-ur-Rehman, both of Moradabad.
“Habib-ur-Rehman during his interrogation revealed that after the arrest of Maqsood Ahmad and Sayyed Mohammed, he fled from Delhi and hid in Haldwani, Uttarakhand,” Kumar said.
“He had come to Delhi to meet someone,” he added.
