Terrorism cannot be countered by violence: Prof. Kamal Mitra Chenoy

New Delhi: The international menace of terrorism can not be countered by violence. Instead its eradication is possible only through justice and peace and without recourse to any torture.

These views were expressed by Prof. Kamal A. Mitra Chenoy of School of International Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University.

He was speaking in a workshop, on the topic of ‘Counter Terror with Justice not Torture’ which was organized in the India Islamic Cultural Center, New Delhi to discuss how to deal with the challenge of “terrorism”.

Prof. Chenoy further pointed out that terrorism is continuing in various forms in north-eastern region of the world .It is engendering non-state armed violence in countries like China, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Bhutan which is affecting their economic systems badly.

Another participant of the workshop, and minority rights activist, Teesta Setalvad said that the establishment of institutions and organizations to monitor terrorism and its causes is necessary. It would make it possible for us to peep into its reasons and thereby adopt a practical suitable approach.

Finance Minister of Jammu & Kashmir Government, Tariq Hameed Kurrah read his paper on ‘Non-State Armed Groups’. He gave statistics of devastation wrecked by the terrorist organizations in Jammu & Kashmir.
