London : India’s Sania Mirza and American Bethanie Mattek cruised to the third round of the women’s doubles at Wimbledon with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Maria Kirilenko of Russia and Flavia Pennetta of Italy here Saturday.
Rohan Bopanna, though. lost his mixed doubles second round match as he and Tatiana Poutchek of Belarus went down to Simon Aspelin of Sweden and Lisa Raymond of the US 3-6, 6-7 (7-1).
In the junior boy’s section, India’s Yuki Bhambri crashed out in the singles first round after losing in straight sets to American Ty d Trombetta, who at 58 is much lower in rankings to the Indian. Yuki, ranked seven, went down 6-7 (7-2) (4-6).
The 13th seed pair of Sania and Mattek broke their opponents once to take the first set in 33 minutes. They could convert only one of the four break points in the second set but still managed to pocket it as Kirilenko and Pannetta lost all the three break points that came their way.
The Indian-American pair will now clash with the winners of the match between Anne Keothavong and Melanie South of Britain and the Uzbek-Belarussian pair of Akgul Amanmuradova and Darya Kustova.
