Vienna : German goalkeeper Jens Lehmann did not want to talk about his future but conceded that Sunday’s 0-1 Euro 2008 final defeat to Spain would be his last European Championship game.
“Unfortunately we are on the side that has nothing to celebrate and that is very frustrating,” Lehmann said.
“The disappointment will only really hit me in the next few weeks, months or years. I had made it my aim to win the title and when you are close to doing this it is twice as disappointing.”
Lehmann, 38, had hoped to end a frustrating last season on the Arsenal bench with his first major tournament medal.
Although he moves to VfB Stuttgart for the coming season he has made no decision on whether he wants to retire from international football following Euro 2008.
“Everyone will now say what they didn’t like, but each one of us has to come to terms with the disappointment,” he said.
“I am not talking about anything right now (regarding international retirement). I am too disappointed with the way the final turned out.
“When I make a decision I will speak first to my team-mates and the coaches, but it was my last European Championship game.”
Sunday’s final was the keeper’s 61st appearance for Germany. His international career began in February 1998 but only really took off at the 2006 World Cup after being understudy to Oliver Kahn until shortly before the tournament.
