Protest rock Kashmir town over Denmark cartoons

Sopore : Hundreds of people in apple township of Sopore in North Kashmir district of Baramulla staged a strong protest demonstration against the re-publication of blasphemous caricatures of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), by a Danish newspaper.

The protestors gathered outside historical Khanqah-Molla Masjid, Sopore after Friday prayers and later took to streets shouting anti- Denmark and pro-Islamic slogans.

‘We will not tolerate any such sacrilegious act,” president of Sopore Traders Federation, Ghulam Nabi Khan told News Agency of Kashmir adding, “West is hell bent to hurt religious sentiments of Muslim world”.

The religious cleric of historical Khanqah-Molla Masjid, Sopore condemned the act and demanded action against the Danish newspaper.

The protestors which include youth and children raised high-pitched slogans against the blasphemous act. The angry protesters also burnt the national flag of Denmark and effigy of devil cartoonist.

“We will sacrifice our lives, but will not tolerate sacrilegious acts of West,” shouted the protestors.

The protesters later marched through the streets of town, and shopkeepers closed down their shutters and called off it peacefully.
