Agra : Two young lovers, who had fled away from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, committed suicide Wednesday after consuming a poisonous substance at the Firozabad police station, sources said.
Bhudev of Etawah and Kalpana of Kalyanpur in Kanpur had eloped to Agra after their families objected to their marriage. However, the two were caught Tuesday night near the Firozabad bus stand in what police said “suspicious circumstances”.
While being questioned at the police station in Firozabad, nearly 40 km from here, they swallowed sulphas tablets to end their lives and were immediately moved to a nearby hospital where doctors declined to admit them, said the sources.
They were later brought to a private nursing home in Agra, where they succumbed Wednesday evening, the sources added.
