New Delhi : The management schools can expect the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to set aside a precondition, where it offers accreditation only to those institutions which own a minimum of half an acre, a top AICTE official said.
At present, less than 10 percent of the management institutions that apply for accreditation in India get an approval, it is learnt. “Others fail to meet the preconditions set for accreditation. The matter is being reviewed,” pointed out an AICTE official here.
A delegation of members from the management institutes met AICTE chairman R.A. Yadav last year and urged him to relax the norms for accreditation.
The management schools are hopeful of an early solution. Once the accreditation norms for the schools are relaxed, many business schools are expected to earn accreditation.
“Once we get an accreditation, we could add it to our institute’s profile,” said an official running a management school in Ghaziabad near the national capital.
The management schools are also looking forward to international accreditation.
International accreditation is popular not only because it ensures greater acceptability globally, but also for the reason that it facilitates exchange programmes, of faculty members and students, with various business schools abroad.
The Management Development Institute at Gurgaon was the first to get an Association of MBAs (AMBA) accreditation, while Alliance School, Bangalore, got an accreditation with the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Accreditation.
AICTE officials said accrediting an institution is not an easy task keeping in mind that the quality of B-schools has to be maintained and mushrooming of such institutions has to be checked. “We also have to ensure that the right institutes open up to cater to the growing manpower demand,” said an AICTE official.
