New Delhi : At least 39 cadres of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and one government soldier have been killed in separate clashes in Northern Sri lanka.
While five LTTE rebels were killed in Kolmoodi area in Vavuniya yesterday, another five were gunned down in Mannar, Sri Lankas Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) said in a statement at Colombo Saturday.
One LTTE cadre was killed in Madhu in Vavuniya yesterday, MCNS said.
While one rebel was killed in Periyavalandikulam area in Mannar, two LTTE cadres were shot dead in Thirukeeswaran yesterday, Sri Lankan Defence Ministry said in a statement at Colombo.
In another incident, four rebels were killed in Killali area of Jaffna yesterday, the Defence Ministry said, adding, three rebels were killed in Muhamalai yesterday.
In another incident,12 rebels were killed in an area between Mannar and the Northern Defence Lines yesterday, the Ministry statement said.
Six rebels were also killed in northern Vavuniya yesterday.
One soldier was killed in a claymore mine explosion triggered by LTTE rebels in Buttala this morning, the MCNS said.
