Beirut : Lebanese Prime Minsiter Fuad Siniora said he will not find it awkward to visit Damascus to attend the Arab summit, if he receives “proper invitation”.
Siniora said in a statement to Al-Liwa Lebanese paper, published in Saturday’s issue, that Lebanon and Syria will stay neighboring countries with many ties that bind them.
He revealed that he was behind encouraging Lebanon’s Public Works and Transport Mohammad Al-Safadi to go to Damascus, adding that he is not shameful of that.
Al-Safadi held talks on the Arab Gas Pipeline in Damascus on Feb 24 upon the invitation of Syrian Oil and Mineral Resources Minister Sufian Allaw in the framework of the regular meetings of countries party to the gas line; Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, and Iraq.
Meanwhile, Siniora pointed out that Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon told him that all administrative preparations are ready for the international court for the trial of the killers of late Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Al-Hariri.
Lebanese Justice Minister Charles Rizk stressed on Friday that setting up an international court on the issue will go on, expecting positive results in the next few weeks.
He emphasized that the aim of the court is to get to the truth and that it is not a political tool against anyone.
