New Delhi : A major power breakdown in the northern grid – second in three days – disrupted train services Sunday morning, delaying the departure of around 20 eastbound trains from the capital.
“The northern grid developed a technical snag around 5 a.m. Sunday. The major problem was reported from Dadri power plant. Though the supply became normal by 10.30 a.m., most of the city-bound trains from eastern parts were delayed by two to four hours,” A.S. Negi, Northern Railway public relations officer, told IANS.
The electricity failure affected as many as 20 eastbound trains. “We advanced the departure time of 20 trains by one to three hours,” Negi said.
Some important trains whose departure was advanced included the Sealdah and Howrah bound Rajdhani Express trains, the Patna-bound Magadh Express and Vikramshila Express, and the Poorva Express for Howrah.
Friday, a major power failure in the northern parts disrupted train services. The failure was attributed to a technical snag because of dense fog.
“This time again, around 35 lines of the northern grid tripped due to fog and pollutants,” said Rishi Raj, the spokesman for Delhi Transco, which receives bulk of power for distribution in the capital and neighbouring states.
As many as 400 trains, including local shuttles, depart from and arrive at the capital’s major stations, ferrying around 800,000 passengers every day.
