Islamabad : Pakistan’s caretaker Prime Minister Mohammedmian Soomro on Monday sent a summary to President Pervez Musharraf, advising him to convene the new parliament session.
According to the constitution, Musharraf has to convene the National Assembly session on the advice of the prime minister.
Earlier, the caretaker Law Minister Syed Afzal Haider sent the summary to Soomro for the convening of the parliament session.
“The president will either set a date for the assembly session on Wednesday or Thursday,” Haider told the private GEO television.
Pakistan’s two major parties, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), signed a joint declaration on the formation of a new government on Sunday.
The two parties, which emerged as the two largest parliamentary parties in the Feb. 18 elections, urged the early convening of parliament session, at which parliament speaker and deputy speaker as well as new prime minister will be elected.
The prime minister and the parliament speakers will be from the PPP, according to the joint declaration. But the slot for the premiership is yet decided.
The two parties also agreed that the restoration of the deposed judges sacked by Musharraf last November should be brought about through a parliamentary resolution to be passed in the National Assembly within 30 days of the formation of the federal government.
