Ahmedabad : The Ahmedabad airport employees union said late Tuesday evening that its group C and D employees would go on the indefinite “non-cooperation” stir from midnight.
Speaking to IANS late in the evening, the union’s assistant secretary D.B. Raval said that about 180 C and D employees would join the “non-cooperation movement”.
Raval said the Ahmedabad union has raised 14 sets of demand since 1995.
He said the statutory pension scheme, which came into effect in 1995, has not been implemented so far. The management is also not bothered about the seniority issue of the employees, he added.
According to Raval, the civil aviation ministry is planning to shut down the existing Hyderabad and Bangalore airports and then handing it over to private enterprise.
“We have no problem with private participation. But we strongly oppose any move to close down the existing airports,” he said.
The union has demanded a joint committee be set up to thrash out the issue of filling up backlog of vacancies, but so far the plea has fallen on deaf ears, he said.
Employees from fire safety wing, communication, ATC, accounts section will participate in the strike.
Meanwhile, a top official of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) told IANS in the evening that talks were still going on between the management and the union to prevent the strike.
He said those planning the stir were of the non-executive cadre and a contingency plan was ready to prevent any disruption in flight schedules.
