Baghdad : A rocket attack by the Iraqi resistance Wednesday killed three US soldiers and left two wounded at a base in Nasiriya, south of Baghdad, Central Command reported.
The command identified the incident as an “indirect-fire attack”, a phrase to characterize actions with missiles against its troops.
A spokesman affirmed that an Iraqi was also killed in the attack, which took place in the early hours in Nasiriya, where resistance actions have intensified during the last few days.
These three deaths bring the number of US soldiers dead during the almost five years of war against Iraq to 3,987.
According to US statistics, the 14 soldiers lost this month, bring a lethal average of 1.17 soldiers daily.
One US soldier died and two were wounded when their patrol was hit by a roadside bomb near Diwaniya on Tuesday.
