France says Lebanon crisis has “lasted too long,” urges resolution

By KUNA

Paris : France said on Friday that it hoped the next attempt to resolve the Lebanese crisis on March 25 would be successful and noted that the impasse in the institutions in that country has “lasted too long.” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Pascale Andreani reiterated her governments full support for the Arab League plan to bring an end to the conflict opposing Lebanese parliamentarians over the election of a new President, the formation of a national unity government and the reform of the electoral law.

“The process has been delayed sixteen times,” because of the failure to reach an agreement between the 14 factions in parliament, Andreani said.

France, which was deeply involved in the earlier attempt to end the impasse after July last year, has largely ceded the responsibility to the Arab League, but this body has also come up against obstacles in the Beirut Assembly.
