Thiruvananthapuram : The Kerala government will intervene to improve service conditions in the IT sector if the situation so demands, Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan informed the state assembly Friday.
“We will certainly intervene if we get proper requests from the people concerned in the IT sector,” he said.
Gurudasan later told IANS he has received requests from the IT sector about the service conditions. He, however, declined to elaborate. He told the assembly that software sector would come under minimum wages.
Kerala has close to 50,000 people employed in the IT sector with majority of them working at the Technopark campus here and the Infopark campus at Kochi.
Sunil Gupta, president of the Gtech Group of Companies at Technopark, said the issue of service conditions is relative.
“At the moment I don’t think there is need for any intervention from the government because the scenario in the IT industry here is the best. The salary levels are the highest as compared to any sector. The number of opportunities far exceed the supply of manpower and if there exists any sort of exploitation, there are so many jobs waiting to be taken,” said Gupta.
“In short, the situation in Kerala is more favourable to the employees than to the employer,” he added.
