Baghdad : US Vice President Dick Cheney has arrived in the Iraqi capital on a scheduled mission as part of a regional tour.
A spokeswoman of the US embassy told KUNA Monday that Cheney arrived in the city early Monday and would hold talks with senior American military officials and US Ambassador Ryan Crocker.
He will also meet President Jalal Al-Talabani.
Cheney tour would include Oman, Saudi Arabia, Israel, the Palestinian territories and Turkey.
Earlier this month, US President George W. George said Cheney’s Middle Eastern tour was aimed at examining prospects of implementing the long-stalled “road map” plan to settle the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, threats from Iran and regional security arrangements.
The mission is also designed to reassure the regional states of Washington’s commitment to “to a vision of peace in the Middle East.”
