Noida (Uttar Pradesh) : A major power breakdown took place in Noida and Greater Noida of the national capital region Monday night following a fire in a transformer.
The towns suffered a blackout after a fire broke out in the 315 MVA transformer at 630 MVA Pali power station at Greater Noida. Both the towns are supplied power from there.
Sources said one transformer was creating problems since the commissioning of the power station March 5, 2006.
Satanshu Agarwal, deputy general manager (Transmission) UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL), said a fire broke out 7 p.m. Monday. It took 12 hours to bring the blaze under control.
A dozen fire tenders from Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad were called. “We hope we will be able to restore supply after 24 hours if all goes well,” Agarwal said.
“According to a rough estimate, UPPCL has suffered a loss of 60 to 70 million rupees. We have started an inquiry into the incident,” he added.
During the blackout, some parts of Noida and Greater Noida got electricity from the Murad Nagar power station.
