Kuwait City : Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah dissolved the parliament on Wednesday, the pan-ArabAl-Jazeera television reported.
The report said the ruler had informed the Kuwaiti parliament speaker Jassem al-Kharafi that the assembly was dissolved.
The decision was made after first deputy premier and ministers of Kuwaiti cabinet submitted their resignations to Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad on Monday. The opposition-dominated parliament was accused of not cooperating with the cabinet.
Since the prime minister has no right to deal with the resignation, it was handed in to the oil-rich country’s emir.
Report said that earlier on Wednesday, the emir summoned al-Khorafi for a meeting. He is going to call new elections for May after dissolving parliament, disclosed Kuwaiti lawmakers.
According to Kuwait’s constitution, it stipulates that polls should be held within 60 days of the assembly’s dissolution.
