Baghdad : Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki has met high-ranking army officials in Basra city in an effort to end the current tension there.
A government statement said Monday that the meeting focused on means to improve the security situation in the city, boosting efforts to rebuild the city which was subjected to several missile attacks.
The source did not reveal more information about the meeting.
Government spokesman Ali Al-Dabbag said that the military was planning on increasing their presence in Basra city, denying any intentions to bring back British troops.
