Kupwara (Jammu & Kashmir): People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti came down heavily on the National Conference (NC) leadership for “compromising the honour and dignity of the people of the state for power.”
Referring to the revelations made by BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani in his book, Mufti said Advani exposed how, for power, NC leadership traded the autonomy resolution passed by the J & K Assembly in June 2000 with the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre. She was addressing a public meeting at Takipora, Lolab on 24th March.
According to Advani, she said, the NC leadership was firmly told by the then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee that the autonomy resolution would not be accepted at any cost and if NC wanted, they were free to leave the NDA. “However, according to Advani, to safeguard his own chair and that of his son Omar Abdullah, who was the Minister of State for External Affairs in the NDA government, Farooq Abdullah bowed before the Centre and allowed the issue to lapse,” Mufti said and added that the heads of NC leaders must go down in shame for having traded the honor and dignity of the people of J & K for power.
She demanded the NC leadership to apologize to the people for “having compromised the honor and dignity of the people for power.”
