New Delhi : Leaders of Shiv Sena from five north Indian states resigned from the party Wednesday over the “outrageous conduct” of the organisation towards north Indians living in Maharashtra.
“The Shiv Sena is in no way different from Khalistan and Jammu and Kashmir militant groups, which are trying to create a divide between people along regional lines. The main aim of these forces is to split our country,” Shiv Sena’s north India chief Jai Bhagwan Goyal told reporters here.
“The outrageous conduct of Shiv Sena towards north Indians in Maharashtra has deeply hurt the feelings of Shiv Sainiks of the north,” he said.
Goyal added that the leaders would soon form another party.
He claimed that he had the support of party units of Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana and Punjab.
The leader said the Shiv Sena had become a “private limited company” run by party leader Bal Thackeray’s son Uddhav and his followers. He alleged that the party was getting restricted to Maharashtra.
“Bal Thackeray was becoming a puppet in the hands of his son,” Goyal said.
Dinanath Pandey, Jharkhand Shiv Sena chief, and Madhukar Dogri, head of Himachal Pradesh unit, are among those who have resigned from the party Goyal claimed.
He said those leaders putting in their papers would float a party soon and it would be based on a broader understanding of Indian culture.
