Patna: Reservation has been demanded in Bihar for economically backward, and poor members of higher castes in Hindu and Muslim communities in order to remove their poverty and backwardness.
A letter addressed to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh by Soshit Shravan Sangharsh Samiti was released to the press on 27th March. The organization demanded reservation for the youths coming from upper caste poor and backward Hindus and Muslims in Bihar. The letter pleads that 90% population of Muslims and upper caste Hindus in Bihar is economically backward and extremely poor.
The organization complains that even if opportunities of employment are open in Bihar, only those enjoying reservation facility benefit from them and the unemployed youths from educated upper castes get nothing. No one is taking interest in removing unemployment and poverty among the members of upper castes, the letter says. Demanding the prime minister to take immediate action for welfare of upper caste Hindus and Muslims in Bihar, the letter suggests formation of a commission for this purpose.
