New Delhi/Beijing : India’s National Security Advisor M.K. Narayanan and Chinese State Councillor Dai Bingguo Sunday had a telephonic conversation, discussing issues of common concern including the situation in Tibet.
“He (Dai) was responding to my letter (congratulating him) on his elevation as the state councillor,” Narayanan told IANS.
Replying to a question about the India-China border talks, Narayanan said: “Dai will continue as China’s interlocutor on the border talks. There is no change.”
The national security advisor confirmed they discussed issues of common concern, including the situation in Tibet.
Xinhua adds: Dai briefed Narayanan on the violence that occurred recently in Tibetan capital Lhasa and explained China’s stance on, and concerns over, the issue and expressed the hope that India would continue to show understanding and support to China.
Narayanan said Tibet is part of the Chinese territory and India does not allow Tibetans to conduct anti-China political activities in the country.
India will always stick to this position as it has been doing all along, he added.
The two officials spoke highly of the developments of the China-Indian relations, and expressed willingness to work together to achieve positive new progress in border talks between the two countries.
Narayanan said he wished the Beijing Olympic Games success.
