The report, released Tuesday by Save the Children aid agency, illustrates where mothers fare best and where they face the greatest hardship.

The organisation has done the assessment taking into consideration such aspects as longevity, drinking water quality, maternity leave allowances, women’s political participation and the mortality rate of children under five.

Among the top 10 countries on the list are Iceland, Norway, New Zealand, Australia, Denmark, Finland, Belgium, and Spain.

The low-ranked countries include Niger, Chad, Yemen, Sierra Leone, Angola, Guinea Bissau, Eritrea, Djibouti and Mali.

The organisation has been releasing its annual report since 2000 in a bid to arouse public concerns about life-quality for mothers around the world.
