Brussels : The EU welcomed Friday what is said was “significant progress that has been made in the political process in Somalia since the beginning of the year”.
But an EU Presidency statement also voiced its grave concern about the continuing deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Somalia and expressed the EUs willingness to support the efforts of the United Nations to provide urgent response to the crisis.
The EU reaffirmed its full support to the action taken by the Transitional Federal Government and to the reconciliation strategy by Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein that has made it possible to start a dialogue with all Somali parties, internal as well as external, and to launch a true reconciliation process.
Slovenia holds the current EU Presidency.
