New Delhi : Ace shooter Gagan Narang shot a perfect 600 in the qualification round to equal the world record in the men’s rifle prone event of the 39th Grand Prix of Liberation in Pilzen, Czech Republic.
Narang, however, had to settle for the bronze medal with an aggregate of 699.8 points (600 in qualification round and 99.8 in the finals), according to indianshooting.com
Although Narang has equalled the world record score, it might not be officially considered for record purposes as this competition is not part of the International Shooting Sport Federation, the sport’s world governing body.
“Although, personally, I am very satisfied with this performance, I still need to learn and work hard on the prone finals,” Gagan said.
Gonci Jozef of Slovakia won the gold medal with 702.0 points (599+103) while Jazdzewski Jaroslaw of Poland clinched the bronze with 702.0 points (599+103).
In the men’s air pistol event, ace Indian shooter Samaresh Jung shot 674.6 points (579+95.6) to finish eighth.
