Ponte Vedra (Florida) : Daniel Chopra faded away in the final round of the US PGA Tour’s The Players Championship with a six-over 78 that saw him finish tied 42nd with a total of seven-over 295.
Chopra, who was 16th at midway stage, had opened the tournament with an even-par 72 and added a similar score on the second day when he was 16th at TPC of Sawgrass. On the third day, he went over par and on the final day he went six-over for his worst round of the week.
Two birdies and three bogeys on the front nine saw Chopra turn in one-over. On the back nine, he bogeyed the 10th and 12th and closed the tournament with three straight bogeys from 16th to 18th.
Spaniard Sergio Garcia won the title by defeating American Paul Goydos in a playoff. The two had completed the regulation 72 holes with an identical five under 283.
It was Garcia’s best win as the Players’ Championships is considered the biggest event after the four Majors.
