Baghdad : A senior lawmaker says a Sadr City cease-fire has been signed in an effort to stop fighting, the Associated Press reported.
Deputy parliament speaker Khalid Al-Attiyah says the agreement was officially signed Monday, though it went into effect a day earlier.
He says government forces will be able to enter the city’s neighborhood as early as Wednesday.
The deal was signed by five representatives of cleric Muqtada al-Sadr and four members of the main political bloc.
