Chennai cops arrest two for murder and robbery

Chennai : A team of the Tamil Nadu police left for Rajasthan to trace and nab a suspect after they arrested two people here Tuesday and cracked a fortnight-old case of murder and robbery.

“The two suspects nabbed today and the third that is missing belong to the same community as their victim, murdered in a gruesome manner,” a police official said.

Motilal Jain, a 52-year-old financier, was found clubbed to death with a hockey stick here April 28.

The police identified suspects as A. Nathuram, 28, P. Dinesh and G. Ram alias Babu.

According to the police, gold jewellery and cash worth Rs.1 million were missing.

Vital clues, including a blood-stained shirt, finger prints and a broken portion of the murder weapon recovered from the scene of crime led to the arrest of the two suspects and all of the missing jewellery was recovered, the police said.

“The suspects confessed to the killing after the deceased refused to finance their business venture. The third alleged perpetrator, Ram, is said to have fled to Rajasthan with the cash loot. Having obtained clear indications of his whereabouts, we are on the way to nab him,” an official said.
