New Delhi : At least 59 people, including 40 rebels of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), have been killed and several wounded in clashes in Sri Lanka’s northwestern Mannar district.
At least 32 LTTE cadres and five soldiers were killed at Nadunkandal in Mannar Sunday, Indo Asian News Service reported Monday, quoting a Sri Lankan Defence Ministry statement.
At least 12 LTTE cadres and three soldiers were injured in the clashes, the Defence Ministry said.
In Mannar’s Karunkandal area, eight LTTE rebels and four soldiers were also killed yesterday, the Ministry said.
Meanwhile, the pro-LTTE puthinam.com website quoting rebel sources claimed that at least 20 government soldiers were killed and 40 injured at Karunkandal in Mannar yesterday. However, the website did not provide details of damages suffered by the LTTE.
