Cairo : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Speaker of Egypt’s People’s Assembly, Dr. Ahmed Fathi Sorour, discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields during a meeting held in the Egyptian capital.
The two leaders focused on various areas including agriculture sector, Information Technology, Science and Technology, defence where bilateral cooperation can be further enhanced.
Prime Minister Gilani, who is in Egypt to attend the World Economic Forum told the Egyptian leader on Tuesday about recent elections in Pakistan that has helped promote democracy and strengthen democratic institutions.
He underlined the need of frequent exchanges of parliamentary delegations to learn from each other’s experiences.
Gilani also told the Egyptian leader about the election of first women speaker in Pakistan.
On the recent energy and food problems in Pakistan as mentioned by the speaker, Prime Minister Gilani said the present government had inherited these problems and was now taking all steps to resolve them.
Gilani appreciated the hosting of the WEF by Egypt and the speech made by the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak at the forum that focused on peace in the Middle East and eradication of menace of terrorism.
The Egyptian Speaker recalled the strong brotherly ties between the two countries and said the considered development and progress of Pakistan as their own.
He said Pakistan was the only Muslim nuclear power and was a source of strength for the entire Islamic world.
