Savannakhet Province To Produce 123,000 Tonnes Of Rice

Vientiane : Savannakhet province has projected to have 123,000 tonnes of rice from dry-season production, which has done on 26,100 ha, increased by two per cent from the previous plan of the Agriculture and Forestry Service of Savannakhet.

Lao News Agency (KPL) reported Thursday that Cold weather and heavy rainfalls are said the main causes of the late harvest of dry season rice.

Only 35 per cent of dry season rice have been harvested so far this year, equivalent to 9,581 ha.

The service said early this week that this year rice yield capacity of the province was 4.72 tonne a hectare on average.

So far this year, maize, legume and various kinds of vegetables have also been planted on 17,039 ha, which is equivalent to 92% of the province’S previous plan.

The province has sent technical officials to advice people on planting, maintaining their crops and killing insects.

Savannakhet plans to have 28,530 ha planted with rice in the dry season next year.
