Damascus : Syria said Saturday that the Lebanese Doha Accord and the Syrian-Israeli talks held in Istanbul would contribute in achieving regional peace.
State-owned “Tashreen” newspaper said the accord and talks encouraged optimism and were major transformations in the Middle East peace track, stressing that Arabs were able to solve their problems and crises without foreign interference.
It emphasized that Syria had always supported the peace process and made efforts to achieve just and permanent peace that satisfied everyone.
Syria will later announce whether the talks in Istanbul had made progress and whether direct negotiations are needed, the paper said.
Achieving peace is not impossible, as 80 percent of the peace agreement was achieved earlier and the 20 percent remaining will not take a lot of time if intentions were sincere, it pointed out.
Meanwhile, in a phone call with Syrian President Bashar Assad, Spanish King Juan Carlos praised the Doha agreement and Syria’s role in achieving it.
The king also said Spain supported the indirect talks between Syria and Israel.
