The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast that the onset of monsoon in Kerala would be on Thursday. However, an official of the meteorological department here told IANS that it would be delayed as the cloud formation over the southwestern coast had moved towards the west.

“Due to the reduction in cloud forming activity over Kerala, there is a likelihood that the onset of the monsoon could be delayed by a day or two,” said the official.

In 2007, the IMD had forecast that the monsoon would hit Kerala May 24, but the state got the first monsoon showers four days later.
